The McQuay International division manufactures commercial air conditioning and refrigeration equipment such as chillers, air handling systems, and industrial refrigeration. The company has manufacturing plants worldwide and its products are distributed in 80 countries. The global economic recession led to a decrease in demand for construction products, affecting AAF-McQUAY and its parent company, Daikin. In response, the company implemented strategies focused on future growth. Daikin aims to become the world's leading air conditioning, heating, and ventilation company, with AAF-McQUAY contributing to its goal of doubling sales by 2015. To achieve these objectives, the company has invested in facility improvements, innovation, and sales enhancement. In 2009, they opened the Daiken McQuay Applied Development Center, a new $50 million global research and development facility in Minnesota, focused on developing eco-friendly, energy-saving, and noise-reducing equipment. In 2010, a showroom was established in the US. The Daikin McQuay Solutions Plaza in New York showcases the company's advanced and large-scale air conditioning units. This showroom offers consulting and planning services for designers and representatives of major construction companies. Daikin acquired Nippon Muki, a subsidiary of Nippon Sheet Glass, for ¥5 billion ($55 million) in 2009. Nippon Muki is known for developing and manufacturing air filters in the Japanese market. This acquisition is intended to leverage the combined facilities of AAF-McQUAY and Nippon Muki to establish a leading position in the global air filter market.
