Ação da Cidadania was born in 1993, forming an immense network of national reach mobilization to help 32 million Brazilians who, according to Ipea data, were below the poverty line. Created at the height of the Movement for Ethics in Politics, Ação da Cidadania against Hunger, Misery and for Life became the most recognized social movement in Brazil. Its main area of action is an extensive mobilization network formed by local committees of organized civil society, mostly composed of community leaders, but with the participation of all social sectors. It also acts strongly in the areas of citizenship, culture, and entrepreneurship for young people in vulnerable situations. In 2017, it reissued the Natal Sem Fome campaign, which in all its editions has fed over 15,000,000 people in Brazil, and which in 2017 alone raised nearly 1,000 tons of food, benefiting almost 400,000 people in 18 states in the country at Christmas and bringing the issue of hunger back into focus for the national media and politics. In 2018, it completes 25 years of work for the benefit of the country's humblest communities.
