The Hefei Comprehensive National Science Center Energy Research Institute (hereinafter referred to as the Energy Research Institute) is a provincial public institution jointly established by Anhui Province and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It relies on the Hefei Institutes of Physical Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Anhui University of Science and Technology, University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei University of Technology, and other institutions. It benchmarks against national strategies, aims at the world's forefront, and combines the national medium and long-term energy development plan. It gathers domestic and foreign innovative resources in the energy field to build a breakthrough-oriented, leading, and platform-based integrated large-scale comprehensive research base, providing strong theoretical and technical support for solving China's energy development problems. The Energy Research Institute focuses on four research directions: clean and efficient utilization of coal, magnetic confinement fusion, renewable energy, and smart power grids. It coordinates and strengthens basic research, applied basic research, and technological innovation, driving the optimization of layout of research forces in the energy field and the leap in independent innovation capabilities, forming a strategic scientific and technological innovation force with important discourse power and influence in the field of energy technology development.
